Fees and gas

All fees on MAYA CHAIN are paid in M3G. Every transaction pays for execution on MAYA CHAIN plus a share of the cost of posting data to Ethereum.

fee (M3G) = base fee × (MAYA CHAIN gas used + L1 data charge)

Receipts show the L1 part separately in gasUsedForL1.

    Base fee and tips

    Minimum base fee is 200 gwei of M3G. Tips are not collected. Transactions are ordered first come, first served — set maxPriorityFeePerGas to 0.

    Worked example

    A simple M3G transfer uses about 21,000 gas for execution plus roughly 15,000–25,000 gas for its share of Ethereum data. At the minimum base fee, that costs about 0.0075 M3G. Always estimate gas against https://rpc.mayachain.io; do not reuse gas limits from Ethereum.

Block production
Blocks are made only when there are transactions. The sequencer produces a block when it has something to include, at most every 250 ms.
Quiet chain
When nobody transacts, no blocks are made, so block height stays the same and block times are irregular on a quiet chain. There are no empty blocks.
block.number in contracts
In a contract, block.number returns an estimate of the Ethereum block number. Use ArbSys(0x64).arbBlockNumber() for the MAYA CHAIN block number.
